Projects aimed at improving employability are seen as key to changing offender's lives and reducing reoffending. Since January 2010, the NOMS European Social Fund (ESF) Co-financing programme has been working with participants who would benefit from additional employment and skills provision.

The NOMS ESF Programme aims to complement existing provision, particularly the Offender Learning and Skills Service (OLASS) in prisons as well as other existing employment and skills services.

Knowledge Transfer Programme

In 2012 NOMS CFO funded a Knowledge Transfer Programme and worked closely with Social Firms UK and SERIF ( Social Enterprise Research & Innovation Foundation)

Below is a link to SERIF website which contains a comprehensive collection of reports and research focusing on Social Enterprises operating in the criminal justice system environment.

NOMS CFO have also collaborated with SFUK to create a new online diagnostic toolkit for Social Enterprises.

Social Firms InfoMine is an online tool designed to identify and supply information needs on the social firm sector and developing a social firm. It guides the user through a carefully established set of questions, and - based on responses - will generate a report containing information tailored to their specific requirements. This report provides access to relevant resources - such as guides, links to websites, fact sheets, case studies and various services - all in one place. It also signposts to invaluable information the user may not even have realised they needed. In this way it increases user knowledge about the areas of support.
